![]() We Are Experts in Molding Unique Metal AlloysFollowing are a few of the metals and alloys we have worked with:
We work with a number of different high-strength metals, as well as white metals. Our manufacturing methods can often eliminate machining by using net-shape and near net-shape processing. We use two processes—AFT’s proprietary Metal Injection Molding (MIM) process and our Thixomolding® (or Thixoforming) process specifically designed for magnesium and its alloys. AFT Metal Injection Molding: Innovative Process Powered by Next-Generation Technology AFT’s proprietary MIM technology represents the future of complex metal component manufacturing. It combines the shape-making capabilities of plastic injection molding with the material flexibility and strength of powder metallurgy.Strength in Detail Through these unique processes, we can form multiple components into a single, complex geometry. The technology permits co-molding of dissimilar materials. Therefore, we can both maintain and improve the metallurgical properties of conventional metal forming manufacturing. ![]() Built-in Adaptability AFT’s technology works to ensure that we deliver exactly what you need. The AFT engineering team develops each MIM program based upon your requirements. Varied Applications AFT’s progressive MIM technology and custom material development capability is ideal for aerospace components, medical devices and surgical instruments, automotive parts, electronics components, computer peripherals, power tools, firearms parts and communications equipment. Read more about AFT’s Metal Injection Molding Process. Thixomolding® Magnesium Injection Molding: The Choice for Complex, Lightweight Components Magnesium injection molding, or Thixomolding®, merges the design and processing flexibility of plastic injection molding with the strength produced by high-pressure diecasting. AFT’s Thixomolding® process produces complex shaped components with high dimensional precision, fine detail, and overall light weight. Enhanced Material Properties The semi-solid processing technology used by AFT provides a refined, high-density microstructure for improved material properties. Superior Process Capability Compared with conventional die casting, Thixomolding® technology allows us to inject magnesium alloys at lower temperatures. This provides greater dimensional precision, longer die life, fine surface detail, and a more consistently repeatable process. Varied Applications Thixomolded magnesium has become the process and material of choice for the manufacture of many advanced automotive parts, electronic components, power tools, and other consumer product applications.
